The Nazz: “Open My Eyes”

Meet the Nazz at 11!

I got a chuckle out of today’s 11-11-11 “Nigel Tufnel Day” thing — where/when did the idea for that start? Seems like a relatively recent joke, but it certainly has taken hold across the Internet, even resulting in a Nigel Tufnel Day list on NPR’s All Songs Considered blog. So I figured, hey, what the heck, might as well join the herd…

So rather than Cover Friday today, I’m just going to do Nigel Tufnel Day, and go with the song that for some reason was the first one to pop into my head when I gave a little thought about songs best heard turned up to 11: “Open My Eyes,” the great psychedelic pop song by the Nazz, from their 1968 debut album, Nazz. Not sure why it was the first one I thought of, but it’s certainly a good choice and I’m going to go with the idea that it was the first for a reason, whatever that may be. And Todd Rundgren is (or at least was, for a number of years) a pop genius.

So without further ado, since going on about a song seems a little antithetical to simply getting on with it and cranking it up…

Turn this one to 11!

and, if you don’t mind, i’d like to include your blog on my site, that’s now about 90% operational, in the oh so ubiquitous links i like page.

      Please do…I’d be honored!

One of my all-time favorite songs. If Rundgren had done nothing else I’d still consider him a genius for this song alone. You’re right, the louder the better with this one.

Comments, please…
