U2: “One Tree Hill”
It’s hard to know what song to post following such a tragedy as happened on Monday at the Boston Marathon. Boston was my home for many years, so it’s especially heartbreaking to see such insanity happening in such familiar territory.
But “One Tree Hill,” from U2’s 1987 album, The Joshua Tree, feels right.
This one is for everyone in Boston.
You run like river, on like a sea
You run like a river runs to the seaAnd in the world a heart of darkness
A fire zone
My warmest sympathies to all Bostonians. The whole JT was kind of a mourning from the band, for the lost innocence. The band was growing older, famous, rich and this was their last bridge with both worlds. Mourning and exploration of the American dream.
When you put it that way, it makes the song seem even more appropriate. Thanks.
